Question Upgraded my rig but no improvement in render times?

Old system:
GIGABYTE GA-MA790X Motherboard
Intel Core2 Quad Q9400 2.66GHz LGA 775 95W Quad-Core
8 gigs of DDR2 ram
Nvidia GeForce GTX 260
Windows Vista 64bit

New System:
ASUS M5A97 AM3+ AMD 970 Motherboard
AMD FX-8120 Zambezi 3.1GHz Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor
Nvidia GeForce GTX 560
Windows 7 64bit
So the new rig has a lot more firepower but honestly, I haven't noticed any improvement in 3DS max Vray renders. They seem to take about the same amount of time as before the upgrade. As I understand it, Vray will automatically utilize all 8 of my processors to blast out a render, so there's not setting to adjust. Am I missing something?

How many CPUs do you have in the machine? Have you tried a newer nightly build of V-Ray? Also make sure that the 3ds Max Bitmap pager is disabled.

Best regards,

8 core AMD processor, I think bitmap paging is disabled. It's just been left at the default setting, in the common tab in render set up is says:

Bitmap Performance and Memory Options

Bitmap Proxies/Paging Disabled

Does this mean that's it's already turned off when you first install Max?

Keep in mind that the FX-8120 only has 4 FPUs for the 8 cores.
