Ok, my first idea just hit me. The nuclear holocaust has finally come. The image would portray a snapshot several miles outside of a large city. A mushroom cloud would be looming over the city as a shockwave would be tearing through buildings. In the forground off to one side an outline of a human figure can be seen reeling back covering their face.

A sketch will soon follow.

Good luck to all!

A couple ideas that spawned from the orginial....The picture could be from the city streets looking straight up at the plane flying by and the nuclear bomb maybe 50 feet away from the ground/camera man.

Or

A snapshot just as the bomb is exploding. I doubt there are any photos of what the explosion looks like standing only a few yards away right when it goes off. Might be kind of fun to envision and create that.

Anyways, just couple more ideas. Sketches coming soon.

Hehe, another idea just popped into my head and I wanted to get it down before I leave work.

In the middle of a large metropolis an abnormally huge oil well has dug too deep. The well has opened the gates to hell and a large crack in the street is syphoning in demons. Chaos has erupted as the demons begin torment the earth.

Concept Sketch: Concept Sketch 1

Here is my first concept sketch. I started off with the oil rig idea from above. I couldn't quite get the perspective looking right so I also made a quick scene in Maya to illustrate the view better.

Sorry about the terrible quality, my scanner isn't working so I had to take a picture.

Concept Sketch: Concept

This is the camera angle I'm thinking about. I added a few lights as well, just to get a feel.

Ok, I got my scanner working so I will update my original sketch with a better looking one shortly.

I have decided to stick with the idea of the oil rig.

C&C welcome!

Ok, here is the whole story:

It’s the near future and the world’s oil supply is running low. Hybrid cars are everywhere, and the oil industry is slowly dying. Hydrogen cars are on the verge of being mass produced and gas stations will soon be converted to hydrogen stations. Just weeks before the President of the United States signs the “Hydrogen Nation Act” a well known oil company discovers a massive oil pocket deep beneath a major U.S. city. The pocket is estimated to hold enough oil to supply the world’s needs for a few thousand years. A massive joint venture between several of the largest oil companies yields the biggest oil rig ever seen. The very night the rig is to begin pumping the sky is filled with dark stormy clouds. Lightning and thunder clash and light up the night sky. Oil tycoons with millions of dollars invested into the project eagerly stand by to watch as the first of the oil comes through the pipe. The time has come and the pump starts with a loud grumble. Just seconds later, a sound like a thousand crashes of thunder rings out through the sky deafening anyone who hears it. The ground begins to part where the pump penetrates the concrete emitting a malevolent red glow. Only seconds later the crack splits fifty feet wide and 100 feet long. The people around the pump still standing peer down into the canyon in awe trembling with fear. A flash of light so black it makes the night sky pale in comparison flashes, and demons from the very center of hell begin pouring out onto the earth looking for souls to torment. The earth is quickly engulfed with evil and becomes a dark land filled with suffering and agony.

I want to portray the moment that the demons enter the earth. I’m going to build on the original sketch and possibly add some people running or falling. I also want to reference more oil rigs and create a very sadistic looking rig to symbolize the evil it releases.

I like your concept. Original idea. I noticed in your sketch the demons looked ghostly and whispy-like. Almost more mischievous than evil. Are you going to keep them looking like that or more demonic looking?

At any rate, good luck. I look forward to seeing how it goes.

I agree about the demons looking more mischevious than evil. I've been looking at gothic art and peoples interpretations of demons. I have a few sketches and will work on some more and post them to see what you think. I do want the demons to look sort of whispy like souls or spirits, but at the same time very menacing. We'll see if this works out. Thanks for the comments.

Concept Sketch: Demon Concept Sketch

I tried to make the "whispy" demons look more menacing. Although it worked, they just don't look evil enough.
