Concept Sketch: Hel

I really had no idea what to do for the challange... Then the other day I remembered a music video that I had thought of... So here it is:

This is Hel, the Goddess of Death and Birth in the Nordic mythology.

I'll be filling the bottom with shrivelled people, who symbolize the dead. Also on the top left corner, you can see a baby being delivered to the above world (the earth, if you think that the world of the dead is called "Under"world...), and the hands of an Angel is taking the baby up.

Also at the back, Hel is taking the life of a person, who's shocked and terrified by "Death" itself...

Hel is taking lives with the sleeves of her dress, and giving life with her hair (this is not a mythological belive by the way, just the way I thought of her...).

---

Inspired by the song "Nifelheim" by Therion.

Please feel free to leave your comments, that would be most helpful! :)

Concept Sketch: Flying Ship

This is a new concept.. I didn't really love the first one, so I had to find another one... Actually it took me ages to find something decent.

Ok, this is a flying ship, floating towards what seems to be a city located on a floating rock. There are clouds everywhere and they'll all be washed with sunset colors :D

I want to give the feeling like the ship is returning home after a tiring journey, and as they see the the city with a skyline of domes and tall towers, washed with the colors of sunset, their hearts lighten. :)

Don't mind the title, I'll find something better soon ;)

Line Art: Flying Ship

Here's the lineart.
I might post the ship design later as sketches.

The ship will be a mixture of Pirate Ship, Chinese Ship and Viking Ship.

I'm in a dilemma and it would be really nice if you guys can help me. About the clouds, should I do them white, or purple, pink and greenish?
See this link to see what I mean by the second option:

Thanks a lot!! n___n

Hi Silveraxe,

Just wanted to stop by and thank you for your comment on my sketch. Looks like you just started on your lineart... I know some people sketch in color as opposed to completed line work, so I am assuming you will be filling out your sketch soon. Im looking forward to seeing what you will be doing and will give a better critique of your work as you progress. Good luck! - J

I cant really sketch with colors, I gave it a try, but it turned out too colorful, since I tried to seperate different clouds with colors
Thanks to you as well, for cheking out my work and commenting!

The ship style is based after a wood model that I picked up on a trip visit my grandmother in Montery, Ca... think there is something really spectacular about the boats and the people that crew them... building and sailing a vessel, embodies a certain kind of freedom... Good luck as always... will be intresting to see how color works...
