i've just used hexagon2 for displacement painting..nothing else of note and it's stable on my system of a acer laptop with a ati pci express card..i didn't go for the 'patch' as i heard it makes it more ustable currently...

for the price i paid 18 it's a ace way to get some zbrush like tools in a real 3d interface ad much better than the maxscript [mini zbrush] in that you can do some srerious work with it
and not just play.
