Just to add my two bobs worth, I have been using Silo for a fair bit now and love it. I saw the H2 offer and downloaded it. I have to say I was very impressed with all the tools and it is much faster than Silo - a model I am working on Sub divided 4 times and still ran smoothly, Silo choked on the 3 subdivide. I very nearly kept as my main modeller.

However - it is very, very buggy, even with the 201 patch. This was much annoyance to me as I was very positive about it to begin with. The bugs were too much in the end so now I think I will wait for Silo 2.

Buy both, it's no big deal. I work between both on some models. Like when I want to twist a model or do a bit of spline modelling I then go to Hex. Both are great tools and both can be in your arsenal.

It's software and buying both for a $139 dollars is great buy. 2 for the price of 1. Great software by great folks.

silo kills

just grabbed modo 2.oh

sigh.

Uh, tweek? Can't find it.

Cut tool, Can't find it.

Just give me silo 2. I'm still far more productive in silo 1.0 than in modo, max, whatever. Silo just works.

I launched Silo.... render? Can't find it.... =)

Just bustin' your chops... I really like Silo for modeling too. Modo 103 was a tad unstable. However, 201 has addressed every single issue I had with modo. Woo Hoo!

I'll be using them both for sure.

doh

no dude... your supposed to tell me that the knife is in there I just can't find it. I figured out the tweak mode kinda... click and drag... but it's just not as fluid as silo, select vertex > move > deselect vertex. Sigh.

I've got brazil and finalRender for rendering in max, which can also animate(cough), although I did hit render in modo and it worked well.

Ryders: modo's "Element Move" is probably the "tweak" tool you're looking for - Ctrl+T - the knife tool is is under the Mesh Edit tab and is called "Slice" - Shift+C

modo 201 is very, very cool - having a blast with it but I'm looking forward to Silo 2 as well

I like silo's workflow, so it'll probably be my primary modeler. I probably prefer wings' workflow, but silo is developed faster and steadier. But Hex has some tools, i.e. texture paint tools that'll be useful, and as some have said $30 for a 3d paint tool is cheap.

I think silo users will keep it's fans. People who were gonna buy silo will still buy it. I think people who were trying to choose now won't have to. They'll just buy both.

Maybe silo will get a price drop too?? eh eh??

I think if you overlook hex 2 for the price because of some "brand loyalty" your only cheating yourself out of a great tool. And to those who say hex 2 was/is buggy, newsflash silo 2 will be buggy as well, just like modo 201 have bugs. Anyway when is silo 2 coming out again ? No need to choose get them both

Yea man, Silo 2 and modo will most likely have bugs, no doubt. However, if they are as buggy as Hex 2 is, they have failed to deliver. Currently using modo 201 and can say honestly, that it is pretty solid. Not like Hex 2 that is pretty buggy from the limited time I used it. Not to mention it's painting isn't even in the same class as Modo or ZBrush.

Just my opinion but here's to the Silo 2 release being a positive and bug free occasion.

Cheers.

I personally can't wait to own all of these applications. :P Silo 2 is on my buy list now and I've had Hex since beta but I don't know if I'm getting modo or not. I have 103 and I'm not as comfortable modeling with it as I am with Silo but the render engine looks nice.

Side note: Hex 2.1 is going to be much nicer for most users when they release it. Lots of bugs fixed.

That would be bad for modo 201 and Silo 2 if they have as much bugs as Hex 2 does and Luxology and Neversenter end up getting bought by DAZ like what happened with Eovia.

Luxology and Nevercenter are serious companies that want to provide the best for their customers. So we won't see a repeat with DAZ.

I havent had as many bugs with Hex 2 like some, my main problem came with instant AO, locks me up or runs very slow. Other then that it's pretty stable, has nice tools and stuff. Of course people are going to experience bugs to varying degrees so when you say "if 201 or silo 2 has as many bugs as hex 2" that's a misconception as everyone isn't having the same problems. Anyway to each his/her own, I can't wait to see what silo brings to the party though I think I'm set on tools I'd like to see what it can do.
