Numerical Editor

Can anyone tell me why this happens...
I have a model, manipulator at 0,0,0.
The model occupies about the same space in the negative x direction as it does
in the positive x direction.
I'm in Vertices mode, with a vertex in the negative x region selecte.
I open the Numerical editor and that vertix then shoots to its positive x location.
why does this happen?
Do I have something set up wrong?
