So that's hopefully 3 people so far:

KBOC (I think)
MArll
bob143

MArll- I guess we will start a new thread, post our wip as we go along. Give and get constructive criticisms as we proceed. Vote for a winner?

I guess we'll go with the cartoon item and when we get another person or so I'll start the new thread.

I'd like to participate, but I'll be lucky to get 2 hours to spend on this stuff in the next week, and I have other projects that I need to catch up on first :(

I think we have enough people to start and hopefully more will join. This is what I like to post in the new thread for the challenge:

Silo Mini Challenge-1:

Theme: Cartoon Item (Character/vehicle/furniture/animal/etc.)

Start Date: Now Closing Date: 7/8/05

Rules:

1) Have fun

2) Learn something

3) Respect others

4) Only Silo may be use for modeling

This challenge is open to everyone, so give it a try. Please post your works in progress here, so others can view and learn. I know time is precious to everyone, but since this is for fun and the theme is broad, choose something that your time permits and post your wips. There is no penalty for not finishing; the object is to follow rules 1 & 2. On 7/8/05 or prior post your finished model. Then I guess we will choose another topic.

Looking forward to suggestions and comments to help make this and future challenges better.

Any comments or suggests before I open the new thread?

How about a prize of some kind?
Maybe get Silo to put up a copy of the software ?
Just an idea, but it would certainly motivate me into challenges like this!
cheers

marll

I have started the challenge thread.

MArll-That's a great idea but to have a challenge with prizes we will need at least two things:

1) Judges
2) Prizes (as you mentioned)

I am not in position to provide either, but maybe some else can help.

Keep in mind these are mini challenges guys. I don't think Nevercenter would sponsor a full license of Silo to the winner. The cinema 4d mini challenges were for prizes like a mug and a tshirt and that was sponsored by Maxon. Lets not worry about prizes just yet until we get more official word from Jam and Feed about it just have fun modeling!

I don't need a prize to motivate me. Just the challenge is enough.

before anyone starts getting high-minded, the suggestion was made in response to an enquiry on how these challenges could be made better in future...

Here's my two cents to making this better. First off I feel that the challenges should run longer then one week, two would be fine. This way people can spend more time on making their models really nice in what free time they have. Ha, "free time".

Secondly as far as a prize goes I think it would be good if there was a sticky thread post where after every contest the winners name and model image and file can be viewed. Just kind of a kudos thread to the winners.

I'm in, only i'm not too sure about the final image, are we allowed to use textures and render it out in another app? or do you just want to see the Silo model, no textures?

My intentions were to have a mini challenge where we could have fun and possibly learn something at the same time. I was hoping that it would kick things off and we could worked out further details as we go along. I think the only items of the challenge directly under our control are the Theme, time allowed and how the final image will be displayed.

Only if Jam or Feed get involved can we have the possibility of prizes and such.

pnoland's suggestion to have it run for 2 weeks is good and if most people agree, I'll change the thread to read 2 weeks.

Handlebar- I think the final image should show the silo finished model with no textures, a wire would be nice too with the option to render out your textured model in another program. Again if the majority of people agree I'll add that to the thread.

So please let me know if you would like these two changes and I'll add them to the post.

I agree about the 2 weeks, and about only showing the mesh.
