Converting to polys...

Well, I am starting to get into this wonderful program, and I have a doubt.
I usually start by creating a line which I'll extrude to create the contour of something (for example, I create the line of the mouth, extrude it and I get the lips). Now, when I extrude it seems like I get the faces created by the intersecting edges, but they appear transparent and cannot be selected by any of their sides. If I select with the middle key of the mouse they can be selected, which I do not understand.
My question is:

a) How can I select those faces?
b) How can I make them appear as "filled"¿

Thanks guys! (and gals)

Nah, forget it... I must have been blind for not seeing what was happening!
