Material editing

I have made too many saves with multiple material settings, and now have an overload that is dragging down the program. I used to know how to fix this, but have apparently forgotten something.

I think I had to save the Silo (.sib) file as an Ascii (.sia) file and open it in notepad. After deleting the unnecessary lines, I think I saved it back to a .sib file and was able to open it in as normal in Silo. The expected file is not opening, so I have apparently missed something. Can someone please help?

Did you save it with .sib file extension directly from the text editor? If so, simply renaming it back to .sia will fix your loading issue as it's not a sib file.

Finally got it. I needed to export the file from Silo first, not simply save it as a .sia file. Here's the procedure for anyone interested:

In Silo use File > Export and change the .sib to .sia
Open the file in Notepad and delete the unwanted materials.
Save it with a new name.sia
Open in Silo and resave it as a .sib file

Better yet, just keep your files cleaned up, but if you go off on single-minded tangents as I did, this is priceless
