Confocal microscopy

hi there

im messing around with maya 6.0 and i would like to create some
confocal microsopy pictures with maya.

my question now is: are there any tutorials about creating
"confocal microscopy" textures and how i create them in my
hypershade window?

im thankful for any kind of help

Well, light comes in from the back in a microscope so brightness is directly linked to the amount of matter inbetween the lens and the lightsource. Consider using something like ramp shader to use surface direction for brightness. The little hairs could be created by oversharpening in passes.

What's your idea? What are you exactly making?
