I've always had a thing for Salvador Dali.
All that surrealism...Wild stuff.
There are so many great works, but I suppose one of my favorites would be
"Geopoliticus Child Watching the Birth of the New Man"

This painting by Van Eyck is one of many favorites.

Also this by Gerrit Van Honthorst:

I really love the lighting in some of his paintings.

Hehe

The use of the mirror in the background to show the viewer what they would not be able to see normally (the person performing the ceremony in Van Eyck's painting, and the man and woman everyone is looking at in Velazquez's painting).

Also maybe the dog in the foreground.

Are there any other similarities?

I don't have my favorites, it's a crime to choose the one, there are some amazing paintings and different styles, one of those I like is Shipwreck by Claude-Joseph Vernet.

this is hard. I have this folder on my hard disk where I store paintings that really touch me. Only the best of the best gets in there, and then again not even all of it. Still this folder really gets filled lately.

one piece that really striked me is this painting by Vermeer, it's a painting of the city where I live (Delft), called likewise, View of Delft. The digital version never hit me like the real thing, the man captured Holland exactly like it is. Just perfect.

Let me repeat that this picture not even comes close to the real thing.
