Lighting: light test



Lots of things missing still from the image, but here's what I'm after in terms of lighting. From this test, I'll still need some extra rimlighting on the golem (blue light cast from the lightning behind) to pick him out, & more of a dirtmap effect on the rock.

I'm starting to add some more symbolic items, so now there's a sextant, map & documents (symbols for measurement, navigation, possibly the concept of property & ownership of land), the circle markings become a stylized hydrocarbon molecule (taken from the symbol for benzene, which is a precursor to the production of plastics, gasoline, pharmaceuticals...), the pendant has an iconic atom form, & the sword's grip has a double-helical coil dangling from it.

The other object I want to include is a sickle to signify agriculture. I'll probably have it hanging from the man's waist, but that does make the bottom right of the image quite cluttered & the bottom left empty.

Any ideas on things I could put at the left of the picture? Or do you think it should remain empty?

ahhh very cool...like where this is going..great composition i think one of the stronger ones in the comp thus far....my thoughts.....it would be cool to if the wind in the scene was comming from the mark on the ground, as if its tough for him to cast the spell...streaks and wind pushing him back from the symbol and the direction of the cape reflecting that(does that make sense just woke up) might get to a paint over later....only other comment is the form of the monster leaves alittle to be disired but thats just bineg picky.otherwise loving it

here's what I think: your golem is great and you woundn't like him to disperse in background no doubt about it. but unfortunately it's one step from it. I didn't recognize your work in thumbnail image at a glance because I didn't see the golem - he blended with your background.
if you could maybe exaggerate the contrast between golem and background. and one more thing: IMHO your scene could use more reds instead of oranges and yellows. red is more powerful colour and it would fit splendidly.
sorry for such bold crits but I think it's better than always praising.

this is awesome dude! damn! i like it a lot.. i would have done a bigger golem like the one in the WoW intro but hey.. its alredy kickin azz! wellz good luck!

Whoah Matt... Damn that is a fine set of pixels you've thrown into the ring...

Since the masters pose is so dynamic, the Golem looks kinda klunky now...I know he's 'of the earth' but I reckon maybe a tweekin of his pose to give him a little more 'life' and maybe more of a glowing, gaping mouth to go with his eyes. Also maybe a subtle orange backlight on the master...
