Cheers! I was going for an easy to read character design and counter balanced the look with a detailed background to keep it interesting. That already worked well in the old Disney movies or Tintin. So why not applying it to a game

Thanks again!

Designing a game is not just about making the look work with what the gameplay demands. It's also about what makes a game special under all the other great games out there.

The very left image of the environment design breakdown has everything the game in its fundamental form needs. But the question was "How many people would download it?"
We targeted a younger audience and chose a cute, colorful theme. Luckily adults like the style too! We also wanted to keep it simple. The game gets really fast. It was important that there isn't too much distraction going on but on the other hand enough to keep you enchanted.

We choose a style mix of very simple characters with very basic movements and a detailed background with an animated waterfall, wind in the trees and 3D feeling when the camera moves. The character design changed during the process. Giving the Baboos not just different colors but also different shapes makes it easier to separate the them from each other when it gets crazy fast.

We needed something that draws attention to it right from the beginning - the widget. If the widget fails no one sees the screenshots, downloads the game and gets exciting highscore battles with friends...or the world.

Have a look at the gameplay --
