Zero Gravity - Skatepark VFX

Watch on YouTube

Takes a minute to get up and going, but we think it is worth the wait.

Sometimes you just get to have fun. And with this piece, that is exactly what we did. We were approached by the BoarderTown skate shop and park to create a unique video for them. They didn't want an ad, they wanted a piece of video art that told their story. This video is a tribute to the idea of stripping away the what, and enjoy the why. Just as the graffiti artist doesn't see a functional wall but a canvas, the skater doesn't see a step but a stage to showcase his art. We sought to mix as many crafts into one piece as we could. By merging visual effects, raw skate footage, homegrown music and graffiti art (taken from the walls of the skate park), we hoped to present a collage of art forms that are great on their own, but exciting when brought together.
Then the unthinkable happened...

gorgeous concept, really like your metaphor.

If I were to crit, I would like to see more variation in size and scale of the fractured pieces... they seem procedural.. similar to how graffiti artists go from small cans to larger pieces of art, etc...

Something about the lighting of them seems like they have less crushed black than the footage...

insert joke about vfx people always wanting crushed blacks

overall, really like the work here, nicely done.
