WIP -A Moon-walking Fool

I'm currently working on a short end piece for my animation portfolio. I just took this thing out of stepped and into splined, but before I start offsetting keys I could use some help. Critique on everything would be appreciated. At the end I want him to have this creepy, devious, "You know you want to hire me", look and feel.

Also please post your critiques on:
  • Flow
  • Poses
  • Anything else that comes to mind

Thanks! -Russ

The hips move very linearly across the screen with very little up and downs or sideways motion. Also some of the poses feel very off blanace and its very difficult to see where the power is coming from (especially in that little jump).
I suggest you rip a copy of michael jackson doing the dance off youtube, then bring it into maya and assign it to an image plane, then copy the poses (and try and push them a bit) off the actual video. You will have to play with the timing after.

hope that helps

WIP Update

Thanks for your input Yasha. The sad thing is, I already have the same setup you suggested, LOL.

I can see everything you said helping my animation, except for the up and down motion of the body. I've seen a lot of footage of the moonwalk, and the successful ones attempt to hide any indication of the hips going up and down, although some do turn side to side as you suggested.

Again, thanks for the critique and I'll adjust accordingly and give you an update sometime tomorrow(hopefully). I'm tackling a lot at the moment. -Russ
