plasma arm cannon on live actor

This is a project that Arizona Virtual Studios, a video production studio located in Phoenix, Arizona is working on. We started out designing the arm cannon and making a storyboard, giving an idea of how the scene would play out. We then filmed the actor and we added the videos into the tracking software SynthEyes in order to accurately track and build a mesh that we could import into Maya. The mesh represents a 3d model of the actor’s arm and helps us to insert the arm cannon we modeled in our 3D software. With the actor placed in the 3D environment from Maya, we used Adobe After Effects and started adding in the plasma beam, motion blur, and other special effects. It's still a work in progress and here are some still shots of what we have so far. We love to hear feedback, so please feel free to leave comments and suggestions.

We finally finished the Plasma Arm Cannon! This special effects shot was initially shot on our green screen studio in Phoenix, Arizona, then "tracked" in Syntheyes and the weapon was modeled in Maya. The final step was the editing and compositing phase in After Effects (AFX) and Premiere Pro. Click the youtube link below to see the Plasma Arm Cannon in action! We hope you all enjoy our finished product and please feel free to leave comments. Thank you!
