How to draw spotlight images with blended transparency...

Hi all,

I have a photoshop color image with an alpha channel specifying where that image is transparent.

I wish to 'paint' this image onto a ZBrush object polypaint texture while using the blended transparency of my PhotoShop file.

I can already paint with transparency if I set transparent areas of my photoshop RGB channels to pure black, but this gives poor result as on pixels with RGB 0,0,0 are transparent and all the others drawn with full intensity.

For example of what I need, lets say a given pixel is 65% transparent, I would need that pixel to be drawn with 35% intensity while leaving 65% of what was previously behind.

Blended transparencies are a snap in Photoshop but after many hours can't figure it out in ZBrush... can it be done?

it cant be done in zbrush
RGB 0,0,0 is transparent in zbrush but there is no blending of transparency with in zbrush.
you may try opacity but you will still be left a color and not a transparency fade,
my guess is zbrush does not offer a alpha channel that supports transparency opacity

Hi informerman... thanks for taking the time... knowing it can't be done saves a ton of search and frustration time!

Sounds like a useful addition to the next ZBrush no?

far as i am concern, zbrush is not based on what other user think,
its based on what they think,
i seen paul and ryan and some other people that work for pixoligic that cant even navigate there own tools naturally, there all fumble fingers.
do you want facts or fictions? i can show you some YouTube fumble fingers by the so called experts.

what i would think is the person/Thomas what worked for hexagon would show the owner of zbrush how to whip some ass.

Dave Cardwell made zbrush 2.0 and smoked the line,
he was 10 times smarter then pixoligic but they was not smart enough to keep him.


the thing that ticks me off is you guys dont have a SIMPLE and i do mean simple tool to edit a pivot point or rotate and scale.
and to top that off you dont listen to your customers with care far as im concern

what i would like to see is ofer alon admit hes working on the transpose manipulator
like they have in most 3d app and would appreciate what people think,
the manipulator in zbrush is not what people want.
thomas from hexagon has the best ultimate manipulator all in 1.
it always know know where the center pivot is and you can adjust the pivot point if needed.
in other words put hexagon in zbrush and it would be the world best,
your not steeling another idea but just improving it.
in zbrush with the manipulator it work good for the first time and only the first time,
you move it then you screw up the center pivot point, it no longer adjust it self on the center pivot point of the object because the manipulator does not follow the manipulator center pivot point,

I fully agree with Informerman. While I love ZBrush greatly and they add some really cool new stuff on each update, some long standing things in the program need revamping or just made to work.

Sometimes things need to be said, and Informerman said it.

you could however use tool>display properties>BPR transparent
then Render>Render properties >Blend Material

Zbrush is such an enormously complex program! It's as deep as 3dsMax! Lots to learn!
