Z Sketch mode not initialising

SO having just started out with ZBrush i was looking into the class room tutorials and got to the zsketch one, where you are instructed to draw a SINGLE zsphere and go SHIFT+A which will change the ZSphere to a single color ie sketchmode

for some reason this does not happen with my Zsphere it stays the same, but if i click and drag a new single color sphere will be created. After this if i press Shift+A it goes back to the Red/Dark Red One.

its working just not the way i want it to as i cant add / sketch onto it because its being weird, also it would seem despite hitting Shift+A i the brush modes are not going into zbrush but just go grey d out

Thanks alot in advance for all assistance provided

you need to be in edit mode Press the letter (T)
your image shows not to be in edit mode or sketch mode,
the edit mode is not on and the sketch brush is not on
