Would it be allowed to bend more than 1 element in the same entry?

This is my first time doing one of these, so sorry if this is a dumb question! When you say it needs to be one continuous shot, what does that mean exactly? Can I break my scene up into multiple different save files so I can combine all my elements in comp later, or do all my elements need to be done on the same scene file? Thank you!
