WIP thread:EDITED BY MOD:
FXWARS Challenge: 36 - SEVEN TOWERS - Manja

Where is my wip thread???? it's not here anymore!

I only used maya for this, composited with nuke with the help of a friend. animation is not good and there's flickering but that was long enough to render like this!

Wip thread here
This is my entry for the volcano tower. I used Houdini, Photoshop and Nuke and the whole scene is one big projection on geometry with some simulations for the volcanic smoke.

  • DESCRIPTION:

This is my entry to the fxwars seven towers challenge.
There was so much that I wanted to do with this idea. Originally the concept was about a turtle egg that fell into a birds nest, the turtle was raised with a bird as its brother, they both got separated , grew to an extraordinary size, and fell asleep for a few thousand years. When they woke up they both had two waring civilisations that had built homes on their backs, and pitched them against each other.

I had to cut this project short because I had to travel to Grenada for a friends wedding so I will wrap it up here.

I realise that the second scene has some shaky leg animation and the scale seems a bit off but I am unable to work on this project anymore before the deadline as I have to fly.

CHRYSUS - Lost City of Gold

Still:

Full CG entry for the fxwars 36 challenge - Seven Towers

For eons the lost city of gold has escaped the rage of modern man - hidden from reality and temptation.

Animation link - vimeo
Work on shot, initial storyboard and notes - W.I.P.

Thanks for the extra two weeks - I could not of done this shot -- after changing my idea totally near the end of December. Also started late, because I did not quite understand what exactly this challenge encompassed at first; not until I saw other entries did I understand the theme and began work on my second idea of the lost city, with a twist ... in creating molten gold -- rather than the traditional gold.

WIP:Link

DESCRIPTION: Thanks for extra time I could go so far. I unfortunatelly didn't finish my work. So its not final. But still I made High poly model of mountain and tower and dead women praying in front of tower... Everything had ~4k texture and there is a lot of scattering. And i work in real time all the time in viewport (LP MODELS) and got good quality of renders (thanks to proxy models/irradiance maps in externeal file/ proxy models in scatter) Scatter was made on mid poly models in the scene. And The idea of scene is in the picture. Idea of camera movement (I'm not so good at animating anything hahaha), and picures in background in the end of animation. Still I will work on it and some day - I will share with U guys final shots (stills not animation)

Visually the ones i like the most are DanChamberlain's and Vlad Pascanu's... but there are lots of great works here !! amazing.

I would give my vote to Best Visual Effects to PexElroy though. Its a great job of VFX done there. Awesome ! i really enjoyed this thread.
