Flemish-style portrait, jeff johnson (2D)

Title: Flemish-style portrait
Name: jeff johnson
Country: USA
Software: Painter

Here is a rather straight-forward flemish-y portrait I made for a tutorial on digital glazing in the second issue of the new Corel Painter magazine (published by Imagine Publishing out of the UK). I started with a typically overexposed fashion close-up for my reference, and went from there. It was the first tutorial I have done, and I must say it hurts my head to try to paint and come up with words at the same time. Good practice though!

Nice work. The style and execution is great. I think there is a bit too much cleavage though. Not that that's a bad thing, but the style of cloths suggests this lady would not be showing so much of herself. She looks amish or Mennonite. These women are very private and would be shunned for showing so much of themselves. That is a minor problem though, the rest of this image is very well done.

Well the flemish didn't paint many peasants or middle class people except for Brueghel & Jan havicksz.
But very 17th century indeed - portrait well done

This is beautiful! And my ONLY crit.. is that maybe the flat part of her chest before her breasts was slightly darker. but other than that, it really does looks just like an old flemmish painting.
