Small tortoiseshell butterfly, Sally Wibrew (2D)

Title: Small tortoiseshell butterfly
Name: Sally Wibrew
Country: United Kingdom
Software: Painter

Another experiment in Painter with my new Wacom intuos4
I started by working directly over a photo picking up the underlying colour. Then painted into that to add more detail.

All comments welcome

A good start!

I think you started to manage your focus/depth of field but you could do it more consistently. In a macro image like this, the viewer expects a real soft focus in the background, and varying levels of focus for different planes. Don't be afraid to do some "post" in Photoshop. I'm not much of a purist I guess

Nice job! Keep it up!

Hi thanks for your comments, I guess if I'd blurred the brick wall more it would make the butterfly 'pop' out more...hmm that's given me something to think about.
