Wicked, Joel Furtado (2D)

Title: Wicked
Name: Joel Furtado
Country: Canada
Software: Painter, Photoshop

I did this painting based on the novel Wicked by Gregory Maguire. I recently finished the book, and wanted to do some art based on the story. This one shows the main character Elphaba, the wicked witch of the west, making her way through the stormy streets of the Emerald City of Oz.

Great job. I really like the atmosphere with the glow of the lanterns through the rain. My girlfriend, who is a big fan of Wicked, enjoyed your painting.

Thumbs up

Very good with the hustle and bustle of the crowds and the characters. The witch's character and expression is very good, but her core body ended up looking rather thin (like she lost some of her mass). Nice streaky effect of the rain. Very nice lighting and atmosphere. Very nice work here.

Its funny because i tried to read this book a while ago, but i couldn't get very far into it because i just hated the use of language in this book. I've read enough books but this book almost made me reach for the thesaurus every second word and it was just too distracting and slowing down my pace. it almost seemed like the author wanted to seem more intellectual by adding words that are more uncommon, but in my opinion its the wrong way to go about it.

anyhow back to the image, it actually reminds me a bit of The Count of Monte Cristo. The mood of the image is dark, gloomy/rainy, just as i had imagined most of the count book to be like. The man on her right ( our left ) seems like he would work as the count perfectly.

I really like this image, keep it up, plugged.
