Purgatory, Mario Wibisono (2D)

Title: Purgatory
Name: Mario Wibisono
Country: Indonesia
Software: Photoshop

Second piece from art collection 'The Fall of Destinies'.

Way of the sword has made it's bearer must face the trial of sins before entering Heaven. That courtplace is Meido, the gate before Heaven or also known as purgatory.
The trial will count the balance of her life karma, if good karma is dominant, she is cleansed from sins and may enter the Heaven.
But if bad karma is heavier, she is required to face the testament of sin to purge her soul before she can continue with her next life cycle.

This piece took quite a lot of time, maybe around 80 hours or so, done in Photoshop.
For facial expression, i want to create a young pretty female, but looks mature enough as she has face all good and bad thing in her life.
So when i came across Maggie Q photos, i can't say anything else, because she is just the perfect character.
I also did an extensive research about irezumi or japanese tattoo through google image.
The outlines for the koi fish tattoo were created by using pen tool to maintain sharp look.

Some parts are a little bit blurred and the tatoo is so sharp. I'm not sure if you got the correct balance in this image.

Anyway, you draw very well. The shapes are really very beautiful.
I draw using math models and algorithms.

i'd have to second that. the focal point definitely is the tattoo because of the clarity and contrast differential, but it kicks ass!

keep go

The shoulder as if processes insufficient arriving. However the overall feeling is very good

excellent! work! 10 stars!

Awesome! Keep going on!
Only think I would change is the ear, it is too much airbrushed,
I think it needs more noise and imperfection to make this creation perfect!

i love this. great work!

i don't see the slight differences in clarity to be a problem, i think it gives movement towards the sides of the image, yet focused in the centre.
if i had to crit ( well more of a question really ) i'm unsure about the way the tattoo ends on her fore arm.

awesome work 5 * from me.

Well looking at the composition, the ear is the first element I see,
and I don't think it has the same details as the eyes or the tatoo,
but it is just my point of view, in the hope to help other artists.

That tattoo is awesome, wish mine looked like that. My only crit is it looks like the entire tattoo was done in one sitting, after which she got right up and grabbed her sword, took a knee and looked off in the distance. Fade that bad boy up and it will look that much more realistic. Noone, especially somone with no clothing covering thier tattoo, has a tattoo that crisp....except for someone that just got out of the chair. The sun, the wind, everything that takes a toll on your skin.....takes a toll on your tattoo. I think hte highlight over the tattoo is what is making it look so fresh, it looks a bit wet in parts....at least to me
