Red Sonja Pinup , Alexi Chabane (2D)

Title: Red Sonja Pinup
Name: Alexi Chabane
Country: Canada
Software: Photoshop

This painting is based on an older image in my gallery. I re-drew and re-painted it to use as a print at a comic convention (The Toronto Fan Expo). I made this into a 4 x 7 inch card, so I tried to keep the background nice and simple.

I can only vaguely remember red Sonja from my childhood days, but I can still recognize her when I see her. Unfortunately, you made her expression look surprised or nervous (like she's reluctant to swing that sword), and it just doesn't match her known persona of a strong warrior woman. I'd practice a bit more on anatomy with her. Her legs are okay, but her arms are rather awkwardly drawn (thick on the forearm on the back arm, and can't really discern the elbow very much on the front arm; make it the shape feel weird; and both hands are a bit small). I do like the flow of her hair. And I like the simple background and all the reds you used (not too saturated or overpowering to look silly, and some nice tones of oranges and almost faint purples give it a more expressive color palette and atmosphere). Overall, I nice tribute. Maybe you could redo her as a current version rather than a redo of an old drawing you did (to have a comparison of your previous skills to your current skills). Just a thought. Keep it up. Nice job.
