Beat to Quarters, Juhani Jokinen (2D)

Phew! Finally finished this personal painting. I always loved these great ships as a kid and remember how frustrated I got when trying to draw one. The shapes are really complex and the amount of detail can be exhausting. Nevertheless, I decided to give it a try and see if Iíve learned anything during these 15 odd years ( not that much, it turns out ). Oh and for the naval enthusiasts, the ship in question is a sixth rate frigate serving in the british navy.

Yes, looks very like HMS Surprise... VERY well done! One point of critique: in that kind of weather depicted in your painting, unless in battle, the gunports would NOT be open, for fear of water shipping aboard and foundering the vessel... Still, a grand image!

Thanks! You do know your ships mate Indeed I used HMS surprise as a major reference for this since there are a lot of huge images of it online. And you are right about the gunports, I did use some artistic license there to add drama.

Thanks again!
