Celtic Dream, Corrado Vanelli (2D)

Title: Celtic Dream
Name: Corrado Vanelli
Country: Italy
Software: Painter

Hi guys, it is the poster for a local event here in Italy in which several publishers present their fantasy books inside the walls of one of our medieval castles (North of Italy).
This year the theme of the event is "Celtic culture" so organizers said me to create an illustration with some Celtic elements. I wanted to avoid the classic iconography and symbols so I decided to recreate a special scene. I have imagined a ancient family with an old king, with his faithful dog sited in the middle of a land with a castle on the background (the castle is not a typical Celtic architecture but the client asked me to have it in the background). Beside the king there is his son, a prince and a young warrior. A girl on the left side admires the boy and dreams to become his wife. To complete the scene I put in the image also a little elf just to remind that this is a poster for a fantasy event. For the characters, I was inspired by the work of an very talented Italian painter called Roberto Ferri. The old King reminds one of his great painting with a old man.
As usual it is totally made in Painter.
Let me know your impressions!

Very nice implementation and great technique, indeed.
The only thing I don't really understand is the lighting orb. It seems a lil' bit distinct in context, due to the shape of it. Of course I see the reason behind why you put it there...
The theatrical composition was a wise choice, and the fort a the background also fits well. Nice medieval palette and cool lighting. I presume the lack of clothes emphasize the modern fantasy feeling, right?

Great work, keep it up!
- observe... it can only achieved by understanding -

Right Zocsi.
The lighting orb is strange but it is a kind of magic element: my intent was to add a fantasy element with a metaphysical shape. In reality the clothes and in general main structure is not a real "Celtic" scene, it is just a fantasy composition with a very very bland reference to Celtic culture. The commission was for a fantasy book event. Thanks for your comment!

Impressive! Love the goddess. The dog is a lil funny to be in there in my humble opinion but then again, who doesn't like dogs in any work?

I think the lighting and modeling of the figures is really great, I just don't really understand the composition. I think this could be enhanced by making some materialistic distinctions. For example everything appears to be made from a similar soft material.
