ok .. have a limited amount of time .. but would try to give a decent reply :-)

first of all thank you for the plug !!! it did make me warm and fuzzy inside ...
cgtalk mean a lot to me ... my last front row plug was back in 2003 and this is what did kick start my carierre into high gear ( as someone from a movie studio saw it and did contact me with a job offer in the U.S )
anyway feel deeply honored and very humbled at the same time

Quote: Congrats to both of you Oliver for the great model

yes !! olivier is awesome

Quote: I think I see a little texture stretch :P

good catch .. yes there are a few

Quote: Is it because of the guy who posted it, is well liked or am I missing something here?

seriously ???

Quote: If anyone wants to find out more about the Octane render try here Refractive software

100 % agree .. go download teh demo and test for yourself

Quote: What did you use to make it?

max/maya/mudbox and octane renderer (see link above )

Quote: This is cool. It would be cool to see a wire-frame too.

this one is up to olivier ... as this is his model after all

Quote: If one thing doesnt quite fit its the glows - the edges look too sharp - comp issue?

yes you are correct .. no glow or mask output possible out of octane for now ... just my sucky photosh skill

Quote: This is great! Did you use the "noise" feature in Zbrush or is all the "damage" texturing? This is a really cool render; it is now my desktop background!

sorry no zbrush on this sucker .. only mudbox .. texture is a hand painted bump/diffuse/spec channel

Quote: Hey Christophe, what was the rendertime on those bad boy renders?

i did stop each frame at 5mn
i could have let it cook longer .. but i was happy with the quality after 5mn cooking

Quote: I was actually surprised to read that you hadn't modelled this, as it totally looks like something you'd have made. This would make a great figurine. Plugged!

thank you .. yes that true olivier and myself seem to have a similar style .. that probably why he did agree on this colab
thank you for teh plug

again thank you everyone very appreciated for your comment ..

if you did like this rendering
you might want to have a look at the team fortress pyro we did just finish

Great collab' !
Model is really funny, textures looks like lotof fun (and patience), and render looks pretty good indeed. This image rise on me the need of playing with this renderer. I'll check on buying a newer CG asap ^^ You said 5mn : with what hardware?

Congrats on front, keep up cool stuff

Quote: This demands a laser print of the model

Quote: sad that it did not made to a figurine

I almost forgot, a prototype was actually made:

I never saw it myself, these are the only two photos I got. I have no idea where it is now, maybe sitting on someone's desk.

The color scheme is wrong, I mean, beside the fact it's yellow instead of gold: in the early design, the MKVI armor was exactly the same as the MKIV (the one tony wears the most during the second movie) except for the shape of the core, it's only later they decided to give it more gold and some silver parts. And of course marvel did not let us know that the model sheets I had were outdated.

I'll post some wireframes tomorrow, it's 2:30 am, I don't feel like launching 3dsmax now

Ipressive stuff!

You say 5 minutes worth of rendering time. What GPU setup did you render this on?

It would be incredibly interesting to read a "making of" or your thoughts on the process. Pros and cons with Octane.

Have you tried Arion out?
If so, how would you say Octane performs in contrast to Arion?
