HI everyone,
I Decided to give a try at reproducing a piece of my lawn last weekend. Here is the result.

All objects where modelled within Maya and textured using photoshop. Reference material wasn't hard to find, I just photographed my lawn for a few minutes.

I used Mental Ray as rendered with subsurface shaders, physical sky and photographic + bokeh lens.

All the pieces where placed manually to avoid interpenetration, that was actually the longest part for me. I wonder if an Intelligent use of Houdini scatter or V-Ray scatter would be possible to place them procedurally.

One thing I love and admire from artists like yourself is the ability to choose a subject so simple and create it visually so complex.

Hey everyone, thanks for the comments !
I'll add a little game to the thread, there are ants in the picture, can you spot one of them ? To be true only one is easily visible, others are blurred by the bokeh lens.

Great lighting and shaders. Looked for a long time but still don't see any ants. Might be one in the bottom right hand corner but I'm not sure.

You're not far from the ant Plakkert.
Here is a close-up that proves it's presence without totally revealing it's placement too much. I'll be rendering a Higres version this weekend, I just need to setup subdivisions before that.

Irwit : Nice job, Wally was hard to find but I finally spotted him !
