Turok, Jan Berger (3D)

Title: Turok
Name: Jan Berger
Country: Germany
Software: Maya, Photoshop, Renderman, ZBrush

This is one of a few marketing images I have been working on. My duty was to take the game assets ( Maya models, rigs and Zbrush Tools) from the developer and create HighRes marketing images according to client specifications. This included:
- posing
- sculpting geometry for poses
- creating shaders
- lighting
- derive/tweak textures from ZBrush
- render
- compose
I used Renderman for Maya to render it which was easy to use so I could focus more on composition, lighting, etc. I modelled, textured and shaded the environment elements. Since the game rig was of course rather lowRes I took a more detailed model from the ZBrush tool and attached it to the rig and then tweaked the deformation in Maya.
And here are the credits:
Client: Disney Interactive ( UK I believe)
Production Company: Axis Animation, Scotland
Producer: Anke Hilt
Art Director: Dana Dorian

Unfortunately I don`t know who the original character artists names for the raptors and Turok to give proper credit. If you have names, please let me know.

Looks great, but i don't like that volume light pass, it look to much artificial.
Cheers

Very cool work, only crit is (I agree there with Vlada3d) that this godrays/volume light looks like some flat opacity mapped plane and stops at the corner/fades out.
And as a second point, this foliage hanging over the trees looks too much like a curtain or something like that. Otherwise great work!

-One thing that I personally not like (but thats not your fault I guess) is that this Turok has no similarity to the original Turok character Joshua Fireseed from the original comics. But that is not your fault

4 stars

Thanks for your kind words, folks! There are things I would have liked to improve, but given a pretty tight deadline I had to focus on the most important things, like Turok`s pose, expression, etc.. I wanted to fix a few little things after I completed the official version, but never had the time to, so it is the way it is, which is still okay I guess.
Cheers!

Nice work! I agree about the comments on the volume light, but I know how the tight deadlines are in the game industry. Usually marketing wants stuff yesterday! Otherwise I think it's a nice image!

Any way we can see a wire frame or a pre-render? Seriously love this post.

Thats very cool dude, but i think u have some small anatomy hickups. The left elbow seems a bit too rounded up for such a muscular character, and my other crit is on the right hand that is holding the bow, in that position u got a lot of really minute and beautiful detail in the forearm, and i think it could have helped the image. the dinos look cool
