Thanks a lot everyone, I spent a lot of lonely night on this one so it's good to hear you like it. I'm planning on doing the next model in ZB3, and no it's not a Predator. That charakter eats predators for breakfast.

Some WIPs and Wire:

Step 0 is modelled in Maya and brought in to Mudbox, step 2 is used in Maya for posing and rendering in Mental Ray. I used 1 step of Subdivision and added a subd map (32bit) calculated between step 2 and 3 in Mudbox, the rest of the detail is a normal map done (also done in Mudbox) between step 3 and 6.

Step 6, Mudbox detail.

The wire, total 299584 polygons

I used 2 diffuse, 1 spec, 1 normalmap, and 1 displacement texture each for the body and the tail. The base contains of 1 Diffuse, 1 specular and 1 bump. All textures 4k....

The Alien material is SSS and the base blinn, hrm....

The scene has 3 lights and one dome with a HDR image, radiosity is done with Final gather.

I redered the body, tail and base in seperate layers.

Looks amazingly detailed, but some things don't quite make sense. Does this version of the alien have the inner/real jaw? I ask because I can't see space for one behind the outer jaw. Also, I always got the feeling that the back struts were more sharp, sort of blade like bits for the purpose of keeping things off of an otherwize vulnerable backside. Also, while I'm aware that the aliens never looked that realistic, it's skin looks a bit rotten? It's most noticable around the jaw, but it's also visible where ribbing in the legs appears and in the chest area.

Overall these are just nit picks, it's still a wonderful model, though if I saw a life scale version in the dark, I'd probably run very fast in the opposite direction.
