Bodybuilder 1, Steven Hägg-Ståhlberg (3D)

Title: Bodybuilder 1
Name: Steven Hägg-Ståhlberg
Country: Malaysia
Software: Maya, Photoshop

Based somewhat loosely on Frank Zane, I did this for my reel, to show some Mudbox work. Basemesh modeled and posed in Maya, detailed in Mudbox, back to Maya for shading and rendering (Mental Ray), texturing in Photoshop. The back isn't detailed, as I used only one photo as reference.

Super sculpting work, Steven!

How long did this piece take you? Base mesh creation time? Sculpting in Mudbox time? Just curious to know.

Personally i think its looks alittle odd , the texturing is nice, but the shading looks alittle flat... my biggest crit would be that the hair is shinney and not like how hair would react to light... also adding to that the pants look alittle plasticy... but nice sculpting over all.

Basemesh was, I can't remember exactly it was quite some time ago... it was converted from an even older female mesh in a day or two (including new UV's).
Rigged in "The Setup Machine for Maya 2" - a couple hours
posing - a few minutes
sculpting in Mudbox, about 3 days (yeah I was taking my time with it)

a screencap of the base mesh

Another angle:

tweaked the specularity and pants a bit

great work as usual, the body looks fantastic. 5* of course!

maybe the face could have had a more intense expression or this typical exaggerated smiling they do, but I guess thats just personal taste.

hi Steven , i have book "character modeling" and i saw there very similar model of body bulilder.
i never heared about Zaine, but i think so im alone everyone else modeling this guy

i check on network for some comparison, indeed this guy looks oversculpt as yours
personally I thing so this model is really accurete, except face or just the eyes.

The likeness is pretty much there, i could immediately recognise it's him, so great job again, hey why not bothering making the right haircut?

Because I hate making 3d hair! I can paint it fine, but with the tools in Maya it's very difficult. I had some hair but he looked ridiculous... Since the showreel is mostly showing modeling, I didn't bother.

here's the reference photo I used:

Shorter arms, but the expression is sort of neutral. He does have some hairs in the armpits, sorry for skipping those, but he's not very much lighter there I think?

Phenomenal body shaping. Every little bump and muscle is accounted for. The stomach area is spot on and looks vaguely familiar to my own stomach...not. Something about the face doesn't match the quality as the body however. Maybe it's the smallness of the eyes (he looks almost asian, but so does the photo, shrug) or the massive cheekbone, or just the skin shader or color. Hmm not sure.
