I hate Jamba! ... but the animation is great. Congrats to the whole team!!!
But for me, it's sad how the funny old 3D characters became something what I don't want to see ever.
First the crazy frog and now your cool devil fellow. Whats next?

First of all, thanks for your very generous and kind compliments - I'm happy to hear you've enjoyed our latest creation!
With regards to Jamba - well, I can't comment on their marketing strategies but I can say that the rights to Swead do not belong to me, but to my client whom I was commissioned to create the character for. Therefore, he has final say over what he wishes to do with the character, whether that is to sell the exclusive rights to it, use it to advertise another product, further develop it, etc.
Having said that, I've been fortunate enough to have a great client who asks me for my input in most of these cases and, of course, continues to commission me to create more work with Swead.
The decision to use Swead for Jamba was a tough one but ultimately up to my client. He was kind enough to write a few words with regards to that which he wanted me to post here to clear up a few of these concerns. So here they are, directly from him:
"My name is Michael and and I was the one who assigned Richard to
create a character (now know as Swead) to serve as a host for our upcoming
With regards to the Jamba! deal (oh yea, we ALL love them), I have to
admit that it was me who sold his soul to the devil (I'm pretty much aware
of) and not Richard. Actually, Richard was the one who stressed out that
this was maybe not such a good idea and believe me when I say that we
discussed the pro's and con's .
However, to explain my decision why, would exceed the CG Talk server
disc space but it was THE bargain to bring Swead to life. Be honest, you
all wanted to see him animated, so I.
To bring it to an end:

I absolutely agree, they are annoying but this time we made sure that
the quality is as high as possible and the story is funny and cool, also.
So, when I can't stop Jamba! to show their commercials, at least I can try
to raise the bar in quality. The better it gets, the harder it will become
for Jamba to sell bad animations/stories. At the end we can look forward
to see still annoying but better commercials.
So I hope this clarifies some questions for you guys. Personally, in the end, the only thing that matters to me is that we got to create a fun, cool and funny commercial with Swead, thanks to my client Michael.

kudos on the animation and overall story for this ad. the ringing is horribly annoying, but what better way to get peoples attention than an obnoxious cell phone
