Instrument: Worn Alto Sax, Jason Bohanon (3D)

Title: Instrument: Worn Alto Sax
Name: Jason Bohanon
Country: Usa
Software: Strata 3d Pro Cx

This alto sax was modeled inch for inch in Strata 3D after my own, give or take a few extra dents. Mostly bevels and extruded objects. Modeling time: about 90 hours, Raydiosity render time: about 13 hours. Post Photoshop touchups to bring out the light blurring.

Any critiques on the model or lighting would be appreciated.

wow. that looks great. hyper-realistic. i used to work at a place that sold used instruments and that looks dead on.

Can we see a close-up? it doesn't look like the worn bits of brass are speckly enough, I've got a sax thats starting to look like this and the bad bits of brass look more detailed than you've done it.

great model though.

Thanks for the replies. DKMNZ, could you define better what you mean by "speckly?" If you are referring to reflective brass remnants on the worn parts, no I don't have a lot. Looking at my real sax, I found the worn patches to be rather clean of "speckly" artifacts. Might just be that my sax has a few more years than yours (or just less care).

Thanks again
Jason

I like your picture very much. I think you should work on composition a bit.

Alrighty then, I would have posted these sooner, but I've been out of town.

Here's a full mesh of the image.

Then a close-up mesh of the mouthpieces.

Next is an enlarged (but lower quality for time purposes) render of the sax's midsection.

And then finally a close-up render of the engraving. If you can't quite read it, it's a BOHANON III sax from The Elmer Company, U.S.A.

hi,

the renders are very cool, the geometry very detailed, bravo!

only one critic... (i'm a sax player) the bell seems to have a strange shape, it opens too qickly, i dont know, perhaps you have an old model, i have seen that strange Fsharp key.

excellent job anyway!
