Spaceship over Madrid, Fran Saa (3D)

Title: Spaceship over Madrid

Name: Fran Saa

Country: United Kingdom

Software: Maya Photoshop

Submitted: 3rd September 2013

Spaceship concept and layout design I did for the short film Audacia.

The director wanted a very big ship that stands over the city (like in District 9).

For the ship design, I've tried to mix up forms / volumes to depict a spacecraft that can go underwater too (hence the turtle shaped final design).

Does this represent the coming of Bale?

Great job! The only critique I could give is that the haze of the city doesn't seem to effect the ship.

thank you for your comments, I really appreciate it.

Regarding the haze, it is a good point... The ship could be 'hazier', but I think it is enough for the purpose of the pic as I wanted to showcase the spaceship into context but keeping it as the main attraction (without losing it too much into the haze/pollution). Therefore, it is not really on top of the city (yet), it is on top of a green area nearby, much closer to the camera than the city in the background.

Some close-ups:

Thank you for your time!.
Regards,
f.

Beautiful image!
The spaceship design is Awesome.

Regarding the pollution issue, I understand your point but have to agree with Oldenburg.
In my opinion - for image coherence - you should have put haze also on the Ship, or you should have removed it from the helicopters.
If you look at your image now, it looks like they are flying beyond the spaceship, and I am sure it's not the effect you desired to achieve (also because they would be too big compared with the spaceship).
If you open your image in PS and quickly add some haze and color correction to the ship, you will see a clear difference and will obtain a more congruous and realistic integration with the background.

Anyway you did a Great job man!
Congrats

ramonesFAN, thank you for your kind words and comments!.
The pollution issue... you know what?, I'll check it out... I don't have the time for that at the moment, but at some point, I'll do a second pass on the pic, taking this issue into account and we'll see what comes out...

By the way, I like Ramones a lot!...

Cheers,
f.
