Mosque Updated, gurmukh bhasin (3D)

Title: Mosque Updated
Name: gurmukh bhasin
Country: USA
Software: Maya, mental ray, Photoshop, Rhino

I recently built a new PC and decided to increase the render quality of a old project. I re-rendered my mosque concept which is inspired by Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi. Thanks for taking a look!!

Thanks for your compliments and advice. My new pc specs are

intel i7 3930 K six core CPU
nvidia quadro 4000 graphics card
16 GB ram (thinking about adding another 16, but not sure how much difference it will make)
mother board: asus sabertooth x79
254 SSD
850W power supply
and 2x 23" dell ips monitors

I really love the new setup and feel like it is money well spent!

Just wondering what you're render time was?

render time

The important mental ray settings were:

10"x18" at 200dpi
Levels min = 4
anti alising = .500
final gather = 500

It rendered in under 2 hours. On my old machine which is 7 years old I would have to break the file up into 3 parts and each part would take over 12 hours on preview settings, so I am supper happy with such low render times with much higher settings! Its a life changer for me for sure!

Thanks for you reply, wow that's a big reduction in render time and I can just imagine what you can do with this new computer.

12 hours! for just part of the scene. What spec was your old computer?

  12 December 2012
I bought the old computer in August 2005 and it was pretty good for its day. I shouldn't have waited so long to get the new one, but finding the money to do it was super tough. The model file has around 3 million polys, so that was part of the reason I had to break it up into so many parts and why render times were so high on my old machine.

The specs on my old computer are:
