A Piece of Red, Joey Zhangfan (3D)

Title: A Piece of Red
Name: Joey Zhangfan
Country: Singapore
Software: Maya, Photoshop, VRay, ZBrush

In this work, I want to present to you a image of a newly married Chinese woman, seating in the yard, putting in order her hair, before setting off to visiting her parental home during spring new year.

I use some movie and traditional oil painting as reference to create this images. In my opinion, there is no major difference between traditional paining and CG, they are both ways to convey the artists' idea to people.

I was chatting with an Italian friend about romantic movies, he asked me if there is any good Chinese romantic movie. I recommended him <the road home> which you also can find on Youtube, and that day, he spent the whole afternoon watching that movie. Then, he said to me, "Joey, you should really do an artwork of this kind." Hence, I spent a couple of months working on this during my spare time. hope you like it.

there are some details. thx

very meaningful piece, seldom see works on this topic.your idea,or I should say, your friends idea is good!
but in my impression,if she is a newly married woman, her hair should be a chignon, braided hair is the symbol of girl.

SSS is missing

Hi,
she's missing subsurface scattering on her skin or, it's not so obvious (contours are very dark). Because of this, her face looks a little bit unnatural...

I agree with Nafiganado on the skin can be improved. I also think the snow on the clothes are not very convincing, but admittedly, convincing snow on hairs & clothes are hard to do.

The clothes looks plasticy, & the folds on the pants are unnatural. The scarf textures looks great though.

The rocks & wood tectures are spot on though. Overall a very nice image.

I think this is first class work. The folds in the clothes look fine to me, assuming they are baggy padded Winter clothes. I agree about the face needing just a tweak or some SSS to eliminate the plastic doll look (on my ipad) and make it look more realistic.
