simply great

i think its great and very realistic.but i also feel the tires could be a little wider but i may be wrong.
its a simple question but i cant find anything about it:how did you make the shadow fall on a hdri(if it is)?

Well, well, well...

Wow, very nice. liked the picture (my GF thought the barn on the right did not look real;P).
very nice modelling and texturing. you've made the HDRI yourself?.

Only thing i reacted too was the shadow under the car. it was a bit to sharp, and seemed sharper than all other shadows in the image. The only shadows that are as dark as that is under the rooftop of the building and that is totally overlapped by objects. Possibly you have not made a bottom for the car and that does'nt give proper GI or something, (doubt it though since the rest is so thouroghly made.

Anyway shadows under car is a giveaway , except for that its a great image

Holy crap!

No matter what those staring eyes in this thread reply, anybody not involved with CG would take this for a real picture. It's great, the simplcity of the model and the realism of the whole thing...

I, too, was wondering if they put a picture on the frontpage...

Nice work.

Maya default render or mental ray?

What are you rendering on(computer specs) and how long did it take?

It has to be mental ray as maya software render does not support hdri and global illumination.

Not totally true. While maya does not recognize them, you can convert the file to a floating point tiff and render with that. It produces similar results. GI can be simulated numerous ways. I assume it was done in MR, but there is chance it was not.

very nice I was going to critisize the background until you mentioned that it was a photo

The car is 3d?! i though that the building behind was!

Looks amazing! Its not very often that someone does a dirty looking-beaten up car. Keep up the work! Its great!

very close!, a few red flag areas that pop out as unrealistic to me are 1.> the most obvious is the shadow, too well defined, way to dark, not diffuse enough. 2.> the right tire pops out a bit with its cleanlyness as well as lack of colour variation, this being old it would have debris between the tire treads and as a result some dicolouration through usage. 3.> the shading model you used works for 95% of the car, however the roof also pops out at me, maybe b/c of some reflectivness and how its blended or just b/c of the shading. its one of those weird things in cg where someone may not have the knowledge to decide why that part doesnt look right. but it looks fishy i think. 4.> the window dirt that is caked on and smeared by the wipers is a nice touch, but also pops out, maybe to bright or white or something.

i think if those things were fixed i might not be able to tell if its fake.
