Just a couple of sketches stuck together, Princess Aura needs to look quite sleezy.

@Dave Swan

Hi Dave,

Some really nice stuff there - was it part of the original (80's) film franchise ?...

Unfortunately it never got that far, I was working as lead concept artist at a Video games company and they indulged me and let me do a short pitch for a cut scene heavy adventure game, probably would have ended up a bit like Mass Effect but it was too big a project and nobody really liked the idea of an Art Deco inspired game so it never got further.

Flash Gordon

Ahh...pity...I think they missed a trick there, it would have stood out from everything else out there...

I noticed your Ramayana designs - interesting... - have you ever seen anything from the Indo-Japanese animated feature ? (sorry to go off topic...)

Ah this??, I did see that film, watched Sita sings the blues too, neither one of them influenced me on this work though, Going back to Flash Gordon, universally known but in Asia the Ramayana is just HUGE.

Flash Gordon

Indeed it is, in fact it's almost a religion

I helped promote the Indo-Japanese version in the U.K in the mid-90's - I had a 35mm print of the original 2.5 hour version, which is largely unseen, for a short time, & Nina Paley is a good friend (Sita Sings The Blues)...

This ones a bit rougher, kinda just wanted to crank this out. I took that art deco idea from previous posts. I think that looks freaking awesome. So I stole it and put it in his chair. Anywho, I thought emperor ming needs to look like an arch nemesis, somebody really capable of endangering a world. And the comic book, and movie version especially, just looks like kind of a creeper. I kept some of the more flamboyant aspects of his costume but tried to make it look a little bit more like a king with a grudge.

Quickie Aura

I know, heavily influenced by the movie, trying to keep an alien Deco feel to it, sexing it up too, Flash Gordon was always a bit saucy and that's definitely an aspect to big up.
