The Devils Cauldron, Dennis Allain (3D)

Title: The Devils Cauldron
Name: Dennis Allain
Country: USA
Software: CINEMA 4D, Photoshop

The full name ids the Devils Cauldron of the HooDoo sea. The HooDoo Sea is another name for the Bermuda Triangle. Anyway this was my entry in the SteamPunk Competition. I tried to create a dynamic image that placed some sort of mechanized 50's technology against a technology that was old world. In the spirit of 50's science fiction. Any and all comments welcome...

This is a really fantastic image, and one of my favourites from the challenge. It's so chaotic, but in a way that really pulls you into the image. There is a softness in the final render that I really like, it's a bit like what you get when you use the Reduce Noise filter in Photoshop, and it's an effect I've always liked, and it makes the image look very painterly. Very cool stuff.

Plugged!

The crazy machine looks pretty cool indeed.
Grats on the frontpage

May I ask if it's paint-over, or brut S&T setup render? If so, looks very cool. If not, looks very cool too.

^^

What a great Monday morning surprise!!! Thank you for the plug, I really appreciate it! The image is a paint over from a raw 3d model made in Cinema4d. The waves, explosions, and lifeboat people were painted in from photos and lots of Photoshop overpaint. Here is the base model image. I also used the Cloth engine in Cinema to create the sails. I created simple curved shapes to represent waves to help guide my painting of the water. The yellow stokes could use more attention but from all the steel furnace images I found most 'sparks' are very simple in terms of still photography but the point is well taken...Thanks again everybody for the encouragement!
