Thanks to everyone for the nice comments. Some of you were interested in seeing the 3d base that was used initially, which took a lot of conceptualizing. Stephan and Valerie did an amazing job putting all of our ideas into 3d models, since there was so much to take in consideration due to the style, the environment, the technology, and how all of that could possibly work underwater! What you see obviously lacks the final color corrections, and there were also many lighting passes that had to be developped in order to create an underwater type of light.

The characters are photographs that we shot and their helmets were then made in 3D according to their placements. In photoshop we added all the dirt, underwater wildlife, bubbles, color corrections and more.

We all put in roughly 50 hours each (150 total) to make this image final.
