Wow!!!

My first thought about the image was no way, that's not 3d... then I saw your break down and holy crap... it is 3d. Is the background 3d as well or did you paint that in with Photoshop?

Great job and congrats on the front page.

Very nice composition, the colour scheme works very well and the foreground and background compliment each other.

The model is very impressive, I assumed there would be a load of z-brushing involved, but the wireframe proved me wrong

aphextweak – yes , the background is 2D / matte painting

Borilius - thanks mate J

Seandinwiddie - as for the foliage I usually use several planes with alpha to form different
“patches” of vegetation and then distributing them over the scene. Something like that :
