Thanks for comments
I used the standard light of Max, with a script that simulate the GI named E-LIGHT
(a script witten by Ronnie Olsthoron http://home.wanadoo.nl/r.j.o/skyraider/e-light.htm),
plus I add a direct light for the sun and some colored omny to simulate the lighting reflection.
Thats All thanks again

I know this is very popular and everyone is 'WOWing' over it but there are some things very wrong with this image. I also appretiate that you have worked from the original magazine cover so I guess this isn't a secifiic crit about your work, more so on the image as a whole (including the original).
I'm not a conspiracy thoerist, these are just a few things I have noticed purely from a CG point of view:

I have sat looking at the image for a little while now and im strugling to work out who or what took the photo. As far as I can make out there is nothing in the reflection of the visor at the right angle or distance to take the image.

Secondly the DOF and 'Realism of the moon surface is off compared to the astronaught, (more so I have to say in your version) making him look super imposed on the background.

Lastly what on earth (or moon! ) is going on with the lighting? The astronaught is clearly lit from the side, on the right out of shot somewhere, however the refelction shows his shadow directly in front of him. Behind the astronaught the sky is clearly black however, there is no light source. What ever light source there is, is to the side of him, lighing the front of his suit. If the light source was right behind him he would be silouhetted out, just like the shadow cast by the piles of dust in the background. Which leads me onto the point, the shadows of the moon lander, other astronaught and the flag which are pointing inwards, into a point. I know the visor is bulbous like a goldfish bowl and thus would distort the image but the shadows would still point the same way. I looks to me like the flag pole's shadow is pointing the wrong way in comparison to all the others.

I had heard people saying that the moon landings were faked but never listened and never really looked at the pictures until this one, but if the other original shots show similar discrepencies, then no wonder there is a conspiracy thoery.

awesome.

the time is wrong on the wristwatch (just kidding) - but hey it's perfect nonetheless. Wish I were there.

Here's a similar one from Nasa. Not sure if that's the one they put on the cover of LIFE mag, it's the same pose. Slightly different tilt on the background

I agree, great model. If you want to make money on it sell it to Quidam at www.n-sided.com - they're interested in good content for distribution with Quidam.

Most impressed! A very convincing reproduction of the cover. Love it.

That really is quite superb!
Your mesh is so clean.
1 question though.
Is the mesh superimposed over the original background photo?
Or did you painstakingly texture the terrain to match?
In the side by side comparison the shadows show a lot of similarities.
Your lighting is amazing. You must have spent a good deal of time setting this render up.

Thanks for comments
The mesh was posed in front of the original image, to take the correct position of BUZZ, after i delate the photo and i put a background.
This technic gave me the possibility to saw where i have to cut the Space Suite mesh to obtain a realistic result.
