about your concept

I'm not sure what was your objective as far as a concept goes but it looks to me like a UFO landed there and the aliens started to build around the craft.

That's what I found most intriguing.
Good job.

Quote: ...a certain lack of contrast...

I wouldn't mind seeing a bit more contrast in there myself, maybe closer to the "viewer" if not around or at the buildings themselves...but I can understand why it's so foggy if you were trying to convey the feeling of mist from the water hiding the buildings instead.

Makes me think of the way I had imagined the futuristic Salmon research and laboratory facility in the last book, Survival, by Julie Czerneda.

Seems like you ended up flipping the image, eh? Thats interesting.
The problem with contrast many people are talking about might be because of the detail of the mountains and clouds in the top portion of the image. Maybe if you had kept the composition like in the top right image in your WIP collage - with a misty background that gradually dissapears - there would have been a much stronger contrast. I actually like that version better, although it doesn't compare to the quality of the finished painting

Very nicely set. I love the little shining lights within the shadowed base of the structures.

wow, love the perspective behind the buildings. The color palette is somewhat amazing as well. My only question is.. why haven't you got a medal for it? ;P

nice job

Excellent, I get a feeling of unneasiness when looking at the rushing water, but in contrast, the lighted peak and town up to the right brings the feeling of security.
