props

you did a really good job here, even if you want to push the textures further-more maps, etc-, they are still really nice.

A female character who fights and wears armor that doesn't expose her vital organs, or her breasts? Inconceivable!

Good job.

Animate/mocap!

Do you have this model available somewhere to rig and animate, I'd love to see how it works in real time using our motion capture system at work

Just amazing btw.

Reference

Hey, Paul, could you provide references which you used while creating this artwork? I would like to try to recreate it

Best regards!

Sure thing.
Got some loose specs from the client at the time : asian girl, mid 20s, mechanical arm, mechanical eye , costume more towards traditional samurai .... somewhere along those lines

here is my main reference sheet ... had other images as well .. but the one below should be a good start

Hope this helps.

Great! Thanks. And what about Nyra's face? Did you use some specific reference(3dsk, google elsewhat)? It's ok to make some renders(front, back, side) and use it as a reference for modeling. But photo references would be appreciated

Best of luck!

p.s. Waiting for you to create an indepth tutorial on creation of Nyra

I did not strictly follow any particular model/references for the face ... but had a few female asian models from 3dsk just to make sure i have some general reference ...

you definitely need good photo reference for skin/hair textures

some of the models i used at the time ... but am sure they added more asian women in the meantime

As for tutorial for Nyra my time is limited and the free time i have i usually spend it outside the office.
On the same line though ( game characters ) you might want to check these
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?li...bcW-d_lHaX0YIvg
you might find some useful info there.
They were done for another project and was allowed to share them along with some resources (zbrushes,ps patterns, ps brushes etc) ... you'll find the necessary info in the description of the vids
Hope this helps.
