ok... the rules say that the poly count is 2500 - 4000 for your character / vehicle / scene..... It also says that you dont have to put the character or vehicle in a scene but you can if you want... does that then mean that you have 2500 - 4000 for the character and the same again for the scene... or just 2500 - 4000 total.

Specifically i was thinking about a making a character AND the vehicle that they travel in so was curious about the poly budget. But then i may also go nuts and want to build a scene as well, then again i may slack off like every other time and not submit

2500 - 4000 = character
2500 - 4000 = vehicle
50,0000 - 75,000 = scene

you only get judged on one though...

Wow that was fast and thats pretty much what i figured and is fair. I assume you have to specify which one you want to be judged on and reflect that in your WIP thread title.

two 512x512 != four 256x256, but eight 256x256, isn't it?

If I concept a character in the 2D Challenge I can model it and enter it here too? Oh and does it have to be rendered in an actual game engine?

Is it allowed for multple persons to work on one model as a collaboration?

Hmm if I'm doing a Normal Mapped character, is it allowed to enter the hirez version to the cinematic game icon challenge?

environment mapping?

environment mapping allowed?

btw - I have max 4 and a plugin for normal mapping, which I really hope to use, but max 4 doesn't have support for a hardware shader that supports this AFAIK - anyone know how I can preview the model with dot3 bump mapping?

Here's some examples of some icons, thought it might help:

-Batman's suit, notiable the pointy ears and cap. All you have to do is see his silhoutte and you know who it is.

-Splinter Cell. His three point nightvision goggles. Same idea as above.

-Mario. If you don't know, your not allowed to post.

-Megaman. Notable figure, you see him and pretty much know what the game is about.

-Link from Legend of Zelda. Same idea

-Lara Croft. Tomb Raiders biggest selling point.

-Half life's Gordan Freeman or G-Man.

-Spy Hunter. One cool car!

There are millions more, hope this helps.

I'm trying to make a Delta Force soldier. Should I try and be in this challenge or is that not considered an icon?
