Crossfade automation for time lapse?

I was wondering, is there a way to automate this is After Effects:

I'm currently making a timelapse video, and I really like the effect I get when I import an image over 4 frames, have the first frame at 50% opacity, the 2 middle frames 100 % opacity and have the last frame at 50% opacity with an over lap of the next image in the sequence, so it creates a fade in and out effect.

Has anyone got any suggestions on how this can be achieved? import an image, 4 frames in duration, with fade in and out applied, and be able to have the next image in the chain be coming in overlapping the last image? I really don't want to be doing this by hand, as I have a ton of images in my time lapse.

Thanks folks!
