Dual processesor motherboards - where to buy?
Hi all,
I'm having a really tough time finding web sites that have dual processor motherboards for sale. Seems like newegg and pricwatch don't have nearly as much as I might have expected. Can anyone recommend some sites that have a range of dual proc Mobo's? for Intel's and AMD's both, I'm as yet undecided about the processors. Thanks for any help! Jason |
Just go to a manufacturers website and find the model numbers for dual processor boards and do a search on pricewatch or pricegrabber for those models.

www.newegg.com has plenty of dual processor motherboards. The two most popular STARTER dual mb's "Tyan Tiger 2875 and MSI K8Master2" are both sold their. Newegg has a decent selection to choose from for both AMD and INTEL systems.

i heARD THE ASUS deluxe dual xeon mother board is quite good.. have had it installed in mine but have not had a chance to use it yet... u can get it from pricewatch.com |
hmmm i've checked both newegg and pricewatch. To be honest, I don't see this selection you guys are referring to. for example, I only saw 1 MSI dual proc motherboard. BUt there was several Tyans to look at, so that was cool  Is there no other sites that have large groupings of dual proc mobo's? I think newegg and pricewatch are catering much more to the single proc market these days. I hope I'm in the same sections of newegg everyone else is :)
Any help would be great ! |

I miss TC Computers. They used to have a great selection and had awesome warranties. Then they got bought by Insight. For a long time TC was the only place I would buy a motherboard, now I always buy from Newegg.

I wonder where to buy dual mobos and stuff in the UK? I found a few stores selling dual motherboard but none like monarch where you can actually have them build the computer for you..

They sell MB+Ram+CPU combos (also parts). Most of the dual boards from newegg are EATX form factor and require a whopper of a PSU. |
one thing I'm noticing is that all of the intel dual mobo's only refer to Xeon support. Can regular P4 chips (ie Northwood) be put in a dual mobo? It seems that back in the day, dual mobo's could handle a variety of different proc's so long as the pair were the same. But most of the ones I'm seeing are all referring to specific procs (AMD too it looks like). Is this observation correct? thanks for the help folks

from what i've read, is that xeons were always xeons, just now they're marketed as xeons rather than pentiums, as they were in the P3 days. and also from what i've read, is that no, you can't use a P4 in a dual setup, first is because no one makes a dual processor slot motherboard for P4, and even if they did, the second reason is that the technology within the P4 won't allow it to detect the second processor. so tasks won't be split between the two. and basically speaking, a xeon is just a P4 that can either work on its own, or with another xeon. i think the same goes for the AMD opteron line of chips. keep in mind that this is what i've gatherd from reading here and there, I hope it helps, and i really hope it's true, lol |
Hey,
I've been looking to buy a Dual Xeon system for some time now, I asked the people at boxxtech what they put in their Dual 800MHz 3.0GHz Xeons and they choose the Supermicro X6DAx mainboard... Does anyone have a Boxxtech or a mobo like that? Otherwise I'd go for the Tyan S2676UARF if you guys think this is worth it... |
If you're in the market for a dual Opteron system, you should look at IWill's DK8N. I hear good things about it. Currently you can get it off Newegg (just got there this week actually). Or you can try for it at IWill's store. Also, IWill will be launching the DK8ES soon, based on the nforce 4 chipset and sporting two PCIe slots..
