hello everyone,
I know everyone is sick of this question. yet, nobody could give me a proper answer.

I'm cinematographer and to enhance my digital skills I want to learn compositing. there is inferno, nuke and after effects. I know inferno isn't for home computers but still not a big deal for me, I can go to friends post production lab to learn it.

Question comes to professionals who already used all of them. What is the difference?
I've seen interface of all, AFX has uncomfortable look because of layer base. so what about nuke - inferno (or flame)

Inferno is so popular in Turkey and practically nobody uses nuke. But I've heard a lot good stuff about it online. Anyone can enlighten me?

hey there,
i do motiongraphics and of course use mostly after effects for it. but i am sick of the linear layerbased structure. so i want something nodebased. as far as i can see, there are two real alternatives (since i am on win): nuke and combustion. and since i am afraid, nuke could be a overkill for me, i wanted to look at combustion. but i cant find it on autodesk.com any more. was it bought by some other company? or was it just discontinued? if yes, is there an alternative?

the other question would be: are those compositing-solutions fit for animating, say like typography? or are they really just for compositing and sfx?
Hi all,

If you use Toxik/Composite, I would be willing you to join aera toxik community. It is very active, with some high end user and some autodesk guys allways open to answer any question about the user of this software. The more people here, the better for every users :
http://area.autodesk.com/forum/auto...and-combustion/
We use Toxik 2012 (hotfix is here on maya and max support pages) for a year now and I didn't find active Toxik forums apart on aera. VFXtalk have no one at all, fxguide have a forum but not really active.
Also, a nice and active blog you have to know : EnigmaFX

Cheers,
Kib

PS : I'm not from and have nothing to do with Autodesk. I just think an active community about a software we use for production is allways a plus !

I did browse the different forum sections, but was looking for Adobe Premiere or a General Compositing section.

I have Batch Rendered in Maya targas, and imported them into Premiere. My problem is that when I render an AVI file, the Avi plays chopy, and takes about 2 seconds to play per frame.

Settings I choose:
New project menu: DV NTSC Standard 48.

Edit-Prefrences-general:
Prerool 2, Postroll 2
Video Transition Defualt Duration 30
Still Image Default Duration: 1
(Check) Play Work area after rendering previews
(Check) Default scale to frame size.

Export-Media-export settings:
Format: AVI
Preset: NTSC DV

I can get more info on the settings or get a screen shot of that's easier.
Thanks

Hello!

I have a question regarding the enigmatic Toxik/Maya Composite.

I'd like to know how to use the motion blur from the reaction tool (and maybe depth of field?). It would be a great help, and despite of reading everything I have found talking about the Reaction tool, I have absolutely no idea how it works and what it does. Any tutorial for the motion blur? The help files say I need to turn on the software renderer in order to make the motion blur work. Is it another way to say: render the sequence if you would like to see the effect of this tool?

I have been using the motio tool with the blur tool until now, and I am satisfied with the workflow and results, even if I find it (motio) very slow.
Hello. I'm new to Composite (coming over from After Effects) and I can't figure out how to use the coverage and velocity channels. I'd like to use the coverage channel to help out the z-depth pass and the velocity channel to get motion blur.

I've rendered out a .exr sequence and Composite can see these channels on import. But I can't figure out what nodes I need to use to properly use these. The help file seems nearly useless and there seems to be very little on the internet about it.

Does anyone have any experience with this?
