I wandered out to here from Google. It says the forum is closed, but I'd like a place to chat about Animiation Master outside of the A:M website. Seems A:M could use some good PR in the competitive world of 3d apps.

If you've used Adobe Illustrator and are interested in 3D animation, I'd suggest giving Animation Master a try. The price is right for dabblers and the interface straight forward.

This little corner of the Internet will be shutting down. CGTalk will obviously still be here but the Hash Animation:Master section will be closing its doors.

Trying to promote CGTalk amongst the Animation Master community has proven to be rather futile without the support of Hash Inc. Martin Hash himself would rather we went away and. . . to be honest I'm just too tired of trying to convince him, and his inner group that we aren't all out to "get him/them".

On a personal note. . . I love Animation Master and have a fondness for CGTalk. I did my best to try and find a way to help the two groups work together but have been stunned by hostile, ignorant attitudes and lack of support. Instead of seeing this area as a showcase to the rest of the CG community. . . they stick to themselves. . . and take delight in its demise. I just don't get it. Never will.

Thanks for the fun times. . .

Hi everyone

I'm new to Animation Master. I was wandering if anyone out there could answer a few questions that I have.

1. Is it possible to export models from AM into Maya/3DS Max or vice versa?

2. Is it possible to render an animation to Flash format (swf)?

3. How many seconds of animation can most people produce using AM in a week? I know this question is pretty broad. For example let's say the level of quality is like this movie (http://www.animationmaster.com/anim...st/Q0205/09.mov)

4. What good books would you recommend for a beginner to learn Animation Master?
FYI My main emphasis is animation.

Thank you for taking the time to read this thread.

regards,
Mike

Hash Inc. is working on an adaptation of L Frank Baum's "The Tin Woodsman of Oz" as an animated feature.
If you would like to participate, check out the Movie discussion forum to sign up. Martin posted the following goals for the project:
1) Involve the whole A:M community (eventually).
2) Use Animation:Master on a large production.
3) Make a good movie.
4) Increase the skills of those working on the project.
5) Improve Animation:Master.
6) Have some fun, especially by making friends (I know this sounds sappy
but it's what I work off of).
7) Promote Animation:Master
8) Educating new customers (schools)
9) Learn how to do it
10) Be able to do it again.
Playing around with AM again (11.1) and I am having some issues with the timeline. Namely having only certain parts listed in the timeline while I am editing.

For example in messiah I can creat groups of just the controls I wish to animate and have only them show up. Makes it really easy to block things in and also move around keys. In Animation Master I can not seem to do this. I tried playing with the "pin" in the timelien but it doesn't appear to do anything. If I accidentally click on another bone or null it loses my selection set. What pray tell am I doing wrong here and is it the same in 12?

Thanks for any help with this!

Okay, I decided to give A:M one more try.

Here's a model I made. Its still needs a lot of work - hands, legs, hair, bump maps and specular levels on some areas (gloves and boots). Its just a quick rough.

It was only done in 3 hours so please be nice
Some people might remember John Keates came up with a method to soften the look of Hash hair without resorting to options like increasing density, and making the hair finer and more transparent.

Well, I needed to make a CG cat for work, but struggled to make the fur look soft and fluffy. So I used John's technique of moving hair guides side to side in an action, importing this action into a choreography, setting it to repeat several times and then sliding back the action's red bar in the timeline to reduce it's cycle length. This means the hair will 'jitter' about on sub frames......... like a spinning light rig. You can also jitter the hairs 'positional variation' value using the same trick.

I think John could better explain the technique in more detail, but here's a close up shot of my cat's fur, I'm afraid, for commercial reasons, I can't show the whole picture just now.

It's not perfect, but it's getting there. A clumpiness setting for A:M fur would really help improve the realism. Oh, and this jitter trick is ideal for animation as it's doesn't significantly increase render times, unlike the alternatives of ramping up the fur density.
